Sonia
Present
Green farms flew by as the car drove past the city limits. Sitting in her fatherâs old Audi, Sonia stared at her phone. Ever since her visit to Leham Hall, sheâd taken it upon herself to find out more about the death. With Unknownâs threat hanging over her head, she knew she needed to work fast. Alia had disappeared and her mother was avoiding her again. So, Sonia threw all her energy into deciphering Unknownâs identity.
After hours of scouring the web and old newspapers, Sonia had come across one article about an accidental death at the manor. It was a really short article that said a girl had accidentally fallen from the balcony and died soon after. There were no mentions of her name or who she was. But what caught her attention was the date of her death. She died on the day Jia was there. Sophie had said something about her stumbling off the balcony because she was drunk. Was she drunk because she was partying with her friends?
An hour-long texting session with Zara revealed that Jia and Alia went to Ashâs party because Jia was his girlfriend. Zara hadnât gone because she had a paper to submit, but she knew someone had died at the party. She also said the girl who died was one of their classmates. They covered up the incident because the earl didnât want Leham Hallâs reputation to become tarnished. Besides, it was an accident. Zara also said the girlâs familyâ parents and brotherâ came by Leham Hall and were saddened to learn of her death.
Zara: Canât remember her name.
Rolling the windows down, she felt the cool air on her face. The only person who seemed to know anything at all about the accident was Martin. Sure, Sophie had told her things, but she knew the real estate agent was motivated by gain. What Martin had told her about the girl being pushed off the balcony swirled around in her mind. What disturbed her more was that her grandmother had died the morning after the party. So many deaths had occurred in the same timeframe, which was a rather grim coincidence. Even now, the thought of her mother being involved with dadiâs death troubled her. She meant to confront Mrs. Patel at some point. She couldnât go on without knowing the truth. But would her mother ever tell her?
Resting her head on the seat, Sonia continued observing the scenery outside, thoughts churning in her mind. An hour later, they arrived at Leham Hall. Sonia wanted to speak to Martin without Sophieâs interference, but had no idea how sheâd get it. Until she logged onto Air BnB. There, she found a listing for Martinâs cottage and immediately booked her stay. Posing as a happy camper was the way to go. People who rented the cottage could use a back road that led to the cottage to get there without having to go through Leham Hallâs endless gardens. Sonia wasnât sure she could find her way through that maze, anyway.
